A Wedding Day Rooted in Presence, Not Performance

Carly and Noah’s La Pointe Events wedding was filled with soft summer color, artful details, and the kind of joy that can’t be planned into a timeline.

Before their wedding, they told me they wanted the day to feel real and genuine—“like a wedding for a marriage and not for Instagram.”

They wanted it to be authentic, emotional, romantic, and so much fun.

And it was.

Set along the water in Somerset, Wisconsin, La Pointe Events gave them a beautiful backdrop without asking the day to become something it wasn’t. Soft blues, ivory, and fresh greens moved naturally through the design. Organic florals filled the tables. Candlelight flickered between clear glassware as everyone settled in for dinner.

A Soft, Romantic Wedding at La Pointe Events

La Pointe Events is located just across the Minnesota border in Somerset, making it a beautiful wedding venue for couples coming from Minneapolis, St. Paul, and throughout the Twin Cities.

Its clean architecture brought a quiet sense of polish to Carly and Noah’s wedding, while the trees, water, and open lawn kept everything feeling soft and grounded.

Carly wore a Watters gown from Annika Bridal, with a full skirt, sweeping train, and delicate detachable lace sleeves. It was romantic and a little unexpected—the kind of dress that could fill a wide, editorial frame and still move beautifully through the real moments of the day. Paired with Noah’s light suit, the two of them looked completely timeless against the landscape.

Their details carried that same feeling. Soft watercolor paper goods were layered with beautiful illustrations. Fresh greenery and delicate flowers moved loosely across the reception tables. Powder-blue bridesmaid dresses brought a subtle wash of color to the wedding party.

Everything worked together without making the wedding feel like a set.

Thoughtful design gives me so much to play with as an artist, but the purpose of a wedding is never simply to create beautiful photographs. The beauty creates a setting for something much more meaningful: vows spoken, stories shared, people gathered, and a marriage beginning.

Documentary Wedding Photography Rooted in Presence

My approach as a Minnesota wedding photographer is rooted in presence, not performance.

You can have the photographs of your wildest dreams without spending your entire wedding day taking posed photos. You don’t need to perform a version of yourselves for the camera or step away from every meaningful moment to make something beautiful.

There will always be room for direction when needed. I’ll notice the unique light, find the composition, pay attention to the way your dress moves, and gently guide you when it helps. Then I’ll leave space for you to settle into each other.

With Carly and Noah, we created portraits that felt artful and intentional without pulling them out of their wedding. Some were quiet and sweeping, allowing the landscape and Carly’s train to fill the frame. Others came from walking, talking, laughing, and taking in the strange, wonderful reality that they were finally married.

We made the beautiful portraits—and then they returned to their people.

That meeting place between editorial and documentary wedding photography is where I feel most at home: creating photographs that are thoughtful enough to become art while leaving room for a wedding to unfold exactly as it is.

Editorial Portraits Without Losing the Wedding Day

Editorial wedding photography does not have to mean stiff posing or hours spent away from your guests.

For Carly and Noah, a thoughtful timeline gave us room to create portraits around the La Pointe Events property while protecting the experience they had imagined. We worked with the open lawn, surrounding trees, water, and clean lines of the venue to give their portraits variety without rushing from one location to another.

This allowed their gallery to hold both: beautifully composed portraits and the unscripted moments that gave the day its pulse.

The sweeping frames matter. So do the photographs of your people laughing in the ceremony rows, reaching for you after your vows, and losing themselves beside you on the dance floor.

You shouldn’t have to choose between artful wedding photographs and being present for your wedding.
